Question / Help Moments after I start streaming, all sound stops working.

After hours of trial and error I cannot fix this issue. Here is what's happening:

I am running the xi-fi xtreme gamer sound card (latest drivers, etc). I have OBS installed and working fine (streaming over twitch.tv). However, as soon as I launch OBS and being my stream I hear crackling and then moments later (1-5minutes) all my sound stops working. Although I can't hear anything if I try talking in ventrilo people can still hear me. I am forced to restart my computer, or close down whatever game I am playing along with OBS and then my sound is restored (50% of the time).

I have also removed all the xi-fi drivers, uninstalled the card, removed it, and loaded up the on-board sound. When using on-board sound there are no issues or loss of audio.

When I re-install the xi-fi xtreme gamer sound card and I am back to losing all my audio when I start streaming. I never lose all my audio unless I start to stream. Can someone help me figure this out? I would really prefer to not use on-board mainly because my on-board audio quality is very poor.

No other programs/software cause any sound issues, only OBS. Worst case scenario I will be forced to switch to on-board audio, but like I said before if I can avoid it that would be great!

Considering what it does to your machine I'm surprised you're so patient with this issue, I'd probably be super pissed. I must say that I admire your restraint, and I thank you for it.

I unfortunately have to tell you however that I've never actually heard of this happen before. The closest thing to it that I've heard is of volume levels going wacky, but it's actually a bug in windows (something to do with conflicting device settings and it reverts to a different profile with different sound levels). I know of at least one or two other people with an x-fi card that didn't have any problems.

Check to see if it only happens with the mic enabled. Try setting the mic to "disabled" in the audio settings and see if it still does it, out of curiosity. Other than that I unfortunately don't know what to tell you.

I also have an x-fi and no such problem. Maybe you can try and disable your onboard sound in BIOS.

I had somewhat of a similar issue I think when I was mistakenly trying to use the "What U Hear" option in the "Microphone/Auxiliary device" setting under Audio options. It turns out this wasn't necessary to use as OBS already captures all audio going through the Default Device as set in Windows.
