Question / Help Mixer delay between change --> Output + monitoring

Hi all,

I have a bit of an odd problem. There is a big delay from when I change the volume in the mixer to when that change is reflected in the output and monitoring.

This varies quite a bit, sometimes it is about a second, sometimes it is instant and sometimes there is a few second difference.

So when I slide the mixer control from this:

to this:

The change on the meter is reflected instantly, but the actual sound comes in 2 seconds later. The exact same thing when going the other direct.

My findings:
- The audio IS always synced with the visualisation in the mixer, so its not like the audio is offset with the mixer
- If I remove that SOURCE from the Sources panel and add basically an exact replica of that, the problem goes away and the reaction time is instant
- The CPU strain, RAM usage etc is always equally low (1%) and does not seem to affect this issue
- It does not matter if I change the bar for 100% or 1% the delay seems to be absolute regardless
- The only plugin that I am running is TUNA, but also toggling this plugin Off does not alter the results

It is quite frustrating as I can not adjust audio in realtime to what is happening on the stream. So the music often covers the streamers voice etc...

If you have experienced this or have an idea, I will be super happy if you can help.

Thank you!

Is there a difference between toggling the plugin off and removing it entirely?

Have you tried adding a compression filter with a sidechain instead of adjusting manually?

I have the same problem here. Using OBS 26.0.2-2 64 bits on manjaro linux.
I’m using droidcam obs to use my smartphone.
Setup :
  • My phone is connected with audio+video and both are well synced together if I start streaming or if I record a video locally.
Problem :
  • When I activate sound monitoring, the monitored sound is completely offsync AND it doesn’t affect the live nor the recording ONLY the monitored sound.
  • The graphical displayer of the audio mixer stays perfectly synced with the video. This means that there is a delay between the graphical displayer of the audio mixer and what I’m hearing in my headphones (monitoring).
  • The delay can be huge (~2s)
Conclusions :
  • The delay is not related to the phone to computer connection (or else the delay shall exists not only on monitoring but on any other output)
  • That means that delay is introduced by internally by OBS.
I’m not using any other plugin than droidcam obs. The same problem plus some others occurs when using ip WebCam instead of droidcam (without any plugin this time) so I don’t use ip webcam anymore.
I can’t understand why this delay ...
