Question / Help Minimize network impact on wifi.

My upload speed is 5Mb/s (actual: 3.5Mb/s). I wanted to stream on Twitch from a computer that's connected to the internet via a wireless USB adapter. When I first tried, I couldn't stream at anything above 1500 bitrate without dropping frames. I fiddled a bit with the options and I discovered the "minimize network impact" option, so I enabled it and all of a sudden I can stream up to a maximum bitrate of ~3500 without any dropped frames, which pretty much solved the problem.

So here's the question. Isn't "minimize network impact" only supposed to work on stable connections? Why did it fix my dropped frames instead of actually causing even more? Could it be that the USB adapter can't handle the constant packet exchanges? Also, does it matter that the adapter is on a USB2 port instead of a USB3 one? My motherboard only has one USB3 port and it's right next to the majority of ports, so I don't really want to plug the bulky adapter in it unless it's really necessary.
