Bug Report Microphone Stops Working... cannot seem to pinpoint cause

A quick update! I am watching a video I recorded last night.

While recording, the "mic bar" showed went off at some point, so I thought OBS was not getting the sound from the mic. However, during the period I thought OBS was not capturing from my mic... IT WAS. (on that period of the video I complained about the issue, that's how I know).

So now I am no longer really sure when OBS stops capturing the sound from my mic or it is just not showing the bar correctly :(

So I am posting to this thread also, because it appears that I am experiencing this issue with a new set of Siberia V2 headset. It completely stops the stream and there doesn't seem to be much I can do. Plus when the mic does stop working, i get the same errors as mentioned earlier in this thread.

16:20:13: Audio timestamp for device 'SteelSeries Headset - Microphone (USB Audio Device)' was behind target timestamp by 680
16:20:15: Audio timestamp for device 'SteelSeries Headset - Microphone (USB Audio Device)' was behind target timestamp by 1150
16:20:17: Audio timestamp for device 'SteelSeries Headset - Microphone (USB Audio Device)' was behind target timestamp by 830
16:20:19: Audio timestamp for device 'SteelSeries Headset - Microphone (USB Audio Device)' was behind target timestamp by 860
16:20:21: Audio timestamp for device 'SteelSeries Headset - Microphone (USB Audio Device)' was behind target timestamp by 1190
16:20:23: Audio timestamp for device 'SteelSeries Headset - Microphone (USB Audio Device)' was behind target timestamp by 1220
16:20:25: Audio timestamp for device 'SteelSeries Headset - Microphone (USB Audio Device)' was behind target timestamp by 710
16:20:27: Audio timestamp for device 'SteelSeries Headset - Microphone (USB Audio Device)' was behind target timestamp by 1100

Then I lose the sound from my headset as well. Without OBS running, I have no problems at all within the game, and its only when I start trying to use the headset/mic that this occurs. Also it only seems to affect when I goto full-screen on the video game. I'm currently playing BF4... so this is REALLY weird, but it does appear to be a setup issue with OBS and not anything else.

i also am having this problem with the g930 headset, started happening one night at random and i cant seem to fix it. it worked perfect without OBS running, so yes, it is a OBS issue

Unfortunately the issue is still present, even after the updates.

I don't like the idea, but I am thinking about testing if this issue happens with Xsplit too.

As an example of what happens to me, here goes the latest video I record (yesterday)

https://youtu.be/669MGncdkKo

Please pay attention to the following times:
05:05 to 05:50
14:22 to 15:50
25:30 to 26:00
33:27 to 35:00

To my astonishment, this time it happened FOUR TIMES in a single game session :(

I thought about a simple test I will make: I will play for about 30min (should be enough time for the problem to show up) recording with OBS and another sound recorder software.

If the sound problem is captured in both softwares, then it's my headset to be blamed. If it is recorded only in OBS, then it is the problem.

Right?

Oh well... last night I recorded a video of 14min using xsplit (free/trial version) and had no audio issues.

So... :(

OK, guys, I just posted there (in a similar thread there) and I even pasted the URL of this topic. Let's see what happens now :(

No, as in stop using OBS. It's no longer developed so don't expect any fixes. Use OBS MP instead.

so the original OBS will not be fixed for those who would like it fixed? bc the MP version is was too confusing for most people.

We don't know what the problem is as it's something specific to your system. Mics work fine for thousands of other users and none of the devs can reproduce the problem.

no mic and "Audio timestamp for device ... was behind target timestamp" also happens to me:
1. always when I set scene buffering time to 200 ms and mic offset to -200.
2. rarely when my CPU is 100% used up.
3. sometimes when I run OBS from visual studio 2013 debugger, record, pause (breakpoint), wait 20 seconds, then resume. I mostly don't use debugger when live streaming.

In all cases, "reinitialize" button doesn't bring microphone back up and working in OBS. stop record and stop stream does.

I use VB-Audio Virtual Cable as a mic input in OBS, which appear to reduce chances of obs's mic audio cutting out.

Guys, I think I have great news.

Last night I tried OBS-MP and it worked like a charm. I record about 49min of gameplay and there were no mic problems.

So thanks, @R1CH for tellings us about OBS-MP. I admit I hadn't paid a visit to OBS site in a long time :P
