i have this issue since i got obs where my microphone sounds generally high quality through every voice recorder i use except when i try to record audio through obs (and streamlabs too)
heres a video of me demonstrating the difference in audio quality (it sounds a bit quieter in the other recorder but you can still tell the quality is better) https://youtu.be/nRP21Jf0kSQ
ive tried following a lot of tutorials to get the best audio quality and none have helped, my microphone still ends up sounding much worse

What mic and interface / preamp interface /fx are you using?
Are you using any OBS audio plugins (filters) on your OBS MIC input?
My advice is jack up your gain really high, and gate and noise reduction, compression, more gain. I personally use 2 preamps. I should say I am not a traditional sounding mic guy like a great sounding DJ. I think they use really expensive hardware but youwould have to ask them because I haven't followed their formula at all. I use a pretty uninteresting MIC, and a pretty cheap external preamp, and I set the interface preamp pretty low volume. I gate, I gain, I compress (with makeup which is more gain), then noise reducing 2x (2 diferent noise reducing plugins I use including the OBS one. I gain or reverb gain (optional) again before limiting.

For the OBS source I use -6dB on all OBS sources and I mix the MIC in on only one channel by panning to that direction, and set to mono.

i havent actually used any filters and i just have the mic plugged straight into my pc, it usually sounds fine through other audio recorders and im just having this issue with obs. ill try out adding gain and everything you suggested and see if that helps but ill try that out tomorrow and get back to you

A USB mic? Those are pretty much the norm now aren't they? I wouldn't want to sacrifice a port.
I am going to try and make a recording about my Mic setup today and some other setup things. I'll see if I can get it up here within 24 hours.
If you're at all interested in audio you can't go wrong with buying a good interface. Interfaces are probably one of the best things you can own. Particularly if you do livestreaming. You can route audio any way you want with them.

Beware
- OBS Studio and windows Audio subsystem... lots of limitations... but most can be worked around
- Operating System audio drivers that can interfere (or cause CPU overload)
- USB Root hub limitations
- OBS Studio can be very computationally demanding... many folks complain when the root cause of the 'challenge' is an under-powered computer (especially when combined with not paying attention to hardware resource utilization (CPU, RAM, GPU, Disk I/O, etc)
And under-powered PCs and OBS Studio can have issues when enabled audio sources (anything connected to Desktop Audio?) uses mis-matched sampling rates.

Note the pinned post in this forum about posting OBS Studio log when asking for help/support (pinned in my .sig)... and don't overlook important details like making sure the log is from a (15->30 second or longer) Recording and/or Streaming session

Don't knw if it can help anyone but I made a video in which I discuss my audio setup. This is on Rumble right now. Don't know for how long I will leave it up (the future I mean) but this time it is there. For the first 10 or so minutes I talk about the OBS filters I use on my MIC chain.
Not that anyone wants to sound like I do, but I sound pretty clear and plenty loud with no bad noises on the side ftmp.

Rumble link MIC settings vid other audio setup things I do (2nd half) advanced scene switcher things (third half hour)
