Having problems understanding the Microphone noise gate. Its doesnt seem to work no matter what setting i use. In my streams im picking up alot of microphone feedback such as breathing, background noise and im sure alot of it can be avoided.

Any suggestions for getting as little background noise as possible?

first off open your settings tab and go down to noise gate.
select enable preview so you can see where the background noise sits (the green bar represents this)
once you have established how much of the noise you want to be cancelled out (hidden) set the close threshold to that so drag the adjusting bar to just above or on the level of the green bar.

next you set the open threshold and typically you want that set to around 4 db higher than the close one once you have done that you make sure you have the noise gate enabled over in the top right and click apply.

notes.
the noise gate is overridden in the preview screen so you can see the levels it will not take effect untill you start the stream.

hope this helps you out man and good luck.

Noise gate in OBS Studio is added as a filter. Click on the gear/cog icon next to the mic in the audio mixer. In the future please don't necro threads from 2013 about a different version of OBS, make a new thread instead.
