Question / Help Microphone Monitor Plug-in?

Hey all,

I've been banging my head against a wall for over a year now about finding a way to monitor my microphone without latency. The built-in Windows way to do it just does not work, and I don't have the funds for new hardware.

The only ways I have at this point are via hardware (sound cards, usb interfaces), or recording software (on top of OBS, chat, itunes, other stream tools, and a PC game).

Does anybody have a way they might know of and recommend? I'm also curious if the ability to monitor the microphone could be built into OBS itself, either via 3rd party plug-in or full on integrated feature?

Yes, I have asio4all, however without a program like pro tools, audacity, fruity loops, etc. it is useless, so far as I know. I was hoping to avoid running additional applications, or at least applications of that stature, as I feel like recording software is generally cpu/RAM intensive and I need essentially none of their features.

From their FAQ: "ASIO4ALL is a user mode component that is neither running nor even being loaded unless you start an ASIO host application."

So, I was hoping there might be some way to make OBS that host application. Or make a plug-in within OBS to act as a host application.

However, I'll admit I grabbed the last full release version of asio4all which I see was done at least four years ago. When I get home I'm going to try the latest beta release candidate from last June and see if it does what I need it to.

Unfortunately without a proper hardware mixer you can't avoid running additional programs to acchieve that goal :D
Good luck

Yeah, I just use the Phones/Ctrl Rm port on my mixing desk. Zero latency, it's really nice.
Latency really is the big problem with running any kind of a VST stack or USB mic. No good way to get around it, other than new gear.
