Using the camera to make guitar videos and capturing over HDMI with OSB software. However, the level/attenuation controls in the camera do not seem to be engaged when capturing to HDMI where you're basically just recording off the live sensor view. When you record to the SD card your settings are utilized. But over HDMI, the levels in the room totally overwhelm the audio into way over 0db. I simultaneously direct record my guitar into my audio device so the distortion on the audio of the camera is only used for syncing the direct recorded audio with the video but TBH, the camera levels are so distorted that at times, it's hard to find a clean section to sync them up.

I could record to the SD card but it kind of defeats the purpose of my setup to then have to transfer the file and plus, the sd card capture is compressed. I thought about taping over the mic inputs as a poor man's attenuator. Not sure where they are on the M50. I see two holes in the front of the camera above the lens so that's either the mic or the speaker.

I wouldn't mind using a hot shoe mic but want something powered by the camera and everything I've seen that's camera powered does not have a limiter or level control on the mic so it would likely be subject to the same issues.
