Question / Help Mic Issues, unplugged or exclusive mode

Hello there !

It's my first post here and i hope i won't bother anybody with a stupid question. I've looked everywhere in the internet and my question is still unanswered.

I've just clean'd my computer, and reinstalled all from scratches. I first launched OBS to run some tests and all was working fine. Since i closed OBS, my mic is like dead. OBS says that it cannot find it, that it might be unplugged or in exclusive mode by another software. Skype says that there's a critical issue with the mic, and on windows settings, the mic is not responding (green bars aren't going up with ambiant noise).

It's the second time i've that kind of issue, with another Headset, so i thougth that it was linked to the device and not to the software.

My mic settings does not have the "advanced" options with that special box that must bu unchecked about exclusive mode, so i really don't know what to do. And i've not many software installed, i don't see which one could use the mic in exclusive mdoe.

I hope you guys can help me !

make sure all audio devices in windows playback and recording are set to the same audio format. it will be either 44100Hz or 48000Hz. OBS is set to Audio Format: 48000 Hz. that being said, make sure you close any third party programs that run with your headset. these can cause issues while streaming/recording.

Thanks a lot for your quick answer !

I'll try it tommorow, but the fact that it first worked perfectly and now does not work at all, regardless the software, even windows with all closed and after a restart, that make me feel like that this won't change much :/

As i said, my mic worked perfectly with all my softwares before restarting my computer after my first use of OBS.

I'm really glad you answered as quick as that, thanks a lot !

I've looked that in the settings, and i cant acces to those settings for my microphone ... It seems to be aswell in the "advanced" tab that i don't have. It may be linked to the headset itself, i have a Steelseries 650, with their driver software. Nothing about that link on the internet but it's still possible.
(here the link to the headset off.page : https://steelseries.com/gaming-headsets/siberia-650)

Thank you again,

Those are settings in windows not OBS. right click on the speaker next to the clock and select playback devices it double click on your headset/speakers then go to the advanced tab. Do the same for your mic. but dont change the settings, notate the format then change OBS to match your audio devices. OBS's setting is in the encoding tab.

Yup, windows settings, and the "advanced" tab is not there. I only have 3 tabs for the mic's settings, (translated from French, it may be different in proper EN windows) General, Listen and Levels.
I've checked for the headset this setting is at 44.1Hz. Thinking that the mic should be the same, i changed OBS from 48 to 44.1, but still the exact same error.

Thanks again for your answers, but the problem doesn't seem to be linked to this format.

oh god, i forgot an essential point.

I have to say that the mic is perfectly functionning with OBS and all soft stuff (aha funny to say) when plugged with the double jack. The issue is appearing when using the USB plugging.
But barely all the features of the mic necessit the USB connexion, so .. even if i have a way to do, i'd prefer fixing that strange bug which is really annoying.

I'm really sorry i should have said that days ago ...

If you plugin a new headset you should restart OBS to make sure its detected and do not remove it while recording

i don't stop restarting OBS for days xD
And again, My first use of OBS with the headset plugged with USB worked perfectly.
I'll try to uninstall OBS to see if the mic is working again in windows, to see what happens. I really don't no what to do so i'll try some things and tell you then !

Well, that changed nothing ... I've removed OBS, nothing changed, removed and unplug-replug'd the headset, nothing changed, removed the drivers' headset, unpluged it then restarting computer, and still the same.

I really don't know what to do now .....
