Question / Help Mic going crazy as soon as I turn on my webcam

As of like 2 days ago for some reason when I start my stream if my webcam is enabled, my mic turns me into an ever skipping robot. As soon as I disable it it goes back to normal so I'm really confused. I didn't change any settings and it just all of a sudden started doing this and I've tried just about every setting to get it back to normal. Just not really sure whats going on at this point.

I have a microsoft VX-3000 webcam. The only way I can get it to work is if I switch my mic setting to the webcam mic instead of my headset mic, but the webcam mic sounds terrible. Under my webcam setting I have the audio output disabled as well. Like I said I didn't change anything and all of a sudden my mic won't work at all. Its very frustrating. Please let me know if there's a solution. I saw some other posts talking about changing usb ports, that didn't work, I've been trouble shooting pretty hard for a solid 3 hrs now, tried every setting out and nothing is working.

Let me know if you can help, any info is much appreciated.

Jess

What's "Astro chat"? I've never seen that as a mic/destop device before. I feel a bit worried when I see something like that which I've never seen before when someone's reporting sound issues.

Ah, okay. Okay, what I would first suggest (and I admit I hate having to suggest it), is if the device is a USB device, try switching around the ports for your headset and your webcam. Or, if they're both on USB 2.0 ports, try plugging one of them into a USB 3.0 port or vise versa. Sometimes that can help, so I have to suggest it.

Now, if your mic stops working randomly -- does your desktop sound do the same? If it's just the mic, it could be due to a setting in advanced -- You may want to first try increasing "scene buffering time" to at least 700. You don't seem to have any other mic advanced settings on though so that really shouldn't apply, hm. I really need to redo the mic code.

Yea I already moved both of them from 2.0 to 3.0 ports and it didn't do anything. I just tried increasing the scene buffering time and it didn't do anything. Like I said, I didn't change any settings and the other day it just stopped working. That's why I came here haha.

Ah, quite annoying. I'd have to see the device first hand. Could you link me to the exact model you're using? I have a number of devices I have to buy to debug, I hope that's not the case, but if nothing continues to help, I'll have to add it to the list.

Note that this could also be due to driver issues for the device, you may want to check for the latest drivers for the device. Also settings issues in windows sound control panel can sometimes (rarely) cause it. Setting the device to 44.1khz or 48khz can sometimes help, though again rarely.

the headset is astro's a40 and I listed the webcam earlier. I think there has to be something going on my end beacuse i tried going on xsplit as well to see if it was OBS and I was having the same problem. Just SO weird because literally 2 days ago I had never had a problem before.

I also did see that someone with my same webcam was having this problem. I wonder if a diff webcam would make a difference?

Though if you had it working, then I don't think the device itself is necessarily to blame. If that's the case, then something definitely must have changed on your computer to make it stop working with these applications properly -- it probably isn't your fault or anything, sometimes windows can screw up settings, things can generally go screwy at a whim (especially with these sort of devices). Again I'd probably have to see the computer first hand to really be able to know.

EDIT: Ah okay, I was talking about your headset, but it seems to be the webcam you were meaning, apologies, I misread (kind of late here)

Yea its the webcam that's messing up now, anytime I enable it my mic just goes nuts, so strange. I don't know I'm going to play around with it some more, thanks for trying to help.
