Question / Help Mic Audio Stuttering [Resolved]

I've tried searching these boards for a solution as best as possible, but nothing has worked so far. No matter what I try, the audio from my mic is very choppy. I know it's not the mic itself as it works perfectly well with every other program. Game audio and music work fine. My computer settings for the microphone have it set to 44100 hz (CD quality). Would absolutely love a solution for this.

Here are the logs from today of me trying various settings.

Do you use the noies gate? I notice that it sometimes cuts in and out even though it's still in a 'open' state.

No, I don't. I've tried with and without the noise gate in place a few times already (just not tonight, so it's not reflected in logs), but it doesn't change a thing one way or the other.

Re: Mic Audio Stuttering

Thank you for the vod, I appreciate it -- does this happen to all audio or just mic audio? If this happens to all audio, it -might- be caused by "Sync audio to video time" in advanced (which I recently renamed), it's meant sort of as a last resort option for desktop audio and it can affect other audio input as well, so it could possibly cause stuttering in certain circumstances.

I also notice you were using the mic both with the webcam and in the audio section, though I'm guessing your were just trying to see if using it there would get it to work. Having them both on at the same time can probably cause echos and such.

Other than that I'm not entirely sure -- you might also want to try the "Use mic QPC timestamps" checkbox in advanced as well if the desktop audio is fine, but definitely turn off "sync desktop audio timestamps to video timestamps" if possible first and foremost unless it's absolutely necessary. Also, turn up "scene buffering time" to around 700-1000 just to be safe so your mic has plenty of time to buffer.

Try those things and get back to me and let me know how it goes.

Re: Mic Audio Stuttering

It just happens with mic audio. Turned off the Sync option, tried "Use mic QPC timestamps," and turned up the buffering time to 900. It's still happening. ><

And yeah, I didn't even realize the Video Capture Device section had an option to input mic, so I was messing around with that to see if it would work or not and immediately noticed the echos since I didn't remove it from the audio section first. None of that changed anything though.

Re: Mic Audio Stuttering

Hmm, this is very strange, the only time stuttering has ever happened outside those cases is when a CPU is incorrectly overclocked, reason being it calculates the time data incorrectly and gaps end up in the audio output. It has to time that audio data based upon these timestamping methods to ensure it stays in sync with the video.

I'm actually pretty baffled as to why this is happening for you otherwise, I have to admit. First time in a long time I've seen something like this happen. I wish I had direct access to that computer, I would really love to know exactly what's going on.

Any way you could come to chat some time for some tests? Just if you happen to be willing. Just say my name in there to get my attention if I'm awake

Re: Mic Audio Stuttering

Solution found: Switched headset USB from a 2.0 port to a 3.0 port.

Thanks so much for the help!

Glad I could help, always around in chat. Had me seriously worried it was a bug for a second there. Some of the USB ports on motherboards can have weird issues like this from time to time and switching the port often solves it
