Match Canvas to Selected Area

I want to capture odd sized areas of my screen and when played back have them take up either the full video playback area or full screen whichever is selected. Later I may insert an explanation of what is being shown in an out of the way corner.

As the capture area is not quite 16:9 I have trouble matching the canvas. I could go full screen but this makes the file quite large.

Is there a way to change the canvas size when selecting the capture area??

If not is there a way to see the capture size without losing the selected area in order to manually set the canvas to match?

Obviously the first method is easier and would be preferred.

Possible via custom script to log source size:

properties for source

when you do an Add Source - suggest to user the checkbox "resize output (source size)"
