Hey folks -
I've recently converted my gaming rig over to do 4K using the new PG27UQ display from Asus. One challenge I ran into is my Playclaw overlay. If you're not familiar with it: it allows you to put all sorts of system info and stats on screen. I use it to keep track of frame rate, CPU load and temps, and my 2 GPU's load and temps. Normally I have OBS configured to just ignore the overlay and not record it. But yesterday I wanted to get some recording in to show folks that my system can handle decent frame rates at 4K. As soon as I checked the box to "enable 3rd party overlays" my in-game frame rate tanked. Like almost in half; not quite. But nearly. It didn't even require me to record anything; just have OBS running and displaying the game and overlay in its monitor window.
As soon as I unchecked the "overlay" checkbox in OBS, my frame rate bounced back up to where it was supposed to be.
I'll record an example and post it if folks are interested. Battlefield 1, for instance: I have it soft-limited to 140FPS in the game's config. In 4K with everything on ultra EXCEPT AA and AO (both disabled), BF1 pretty regularly hits and stays at 140FPS in 4K for me. With the overlay enabled in OBS, it would drop down to barely 100FPS. A fairly noteworthy drop. Lowering detail levels didn't make a lick of difference for me, either.
Is this expected? Perhaps something I should take up w/Edward, the developer of Playclaw? I know what he'll jokingly say, "Use Playclaw to record vs OBS ;-)"
