So I am using OBS Studio 0.14.2. I used to use game capture before and had 0 fps drops of any kind not even a minor one, this is due to my PC setup which will be at the bottom of my post.
I decided to update my OBS studio to 0.15.2 the latest version however I found this to have altered something or other as some of my settings such as bitrate since then were changed and ever since the update to the new version I found myself with the issue above where I would be getting a huge FPS drop just simply for having the source open regardless of having the preview on or off.
For instance in Rocket league the game is Direct3D DX9 32 Bit and has a max fps of 250 which my setup will hold consistently without fault. but the second I enable the source my fps holds about 70 and of course is fluctuating +-10 fps.
I ofcourse re installed 0.14.2 in an attempt to recoup back to a working setup. alas this has not happened and I am still sat with the same fault. I have messed around with the settings and have only managed to come across 2 settings that seem to have gotten my fps to sit around 80 fps instead of 70 and another which got me at around 110 ish.
now to most people this would be fine except I am using a 144hz 1440p monitor and therefore sitting below that especially when it is half the fps it is quite tinny and bitty and does have the occassional fps spike/lag that i notice in game albeit small ones.
as the title says when i use game capture or window capture i get the fps drop and cant seem to get around this however when i use display capture I get all the frames I am supposed to and in Rocket League i get 250fps nice and strong as it should be, however I prefer to use game capture for the very reasons there are different capture types to use :)
I have monitored temps just in case there was something going wrong and there was throttling but all is normal there too.
my setup is as follows :
Intel core I7 5930K (Currently Stock due to summer heat but do have a stable 4.5 clock)
2 x Zotac Amp Extreme GTX 980 Ti's in SLI factory OC'd and not OC'd any further.
64gb 2400mhz ddr4 RAM. I believe it is either CL15 or CL14.
1TB 7200RPM Seagate with OS and OBS on.
3TB 7200RPM Seagate where i have my recordings
1TB 7200RPM WD Black for other storage
my monitor does have G-Sync technology however I disabled this due to finding a previous issue with recordings which was far worse and realistically I get far more than 144 fps in all but 3 of my games that I do not need to have it on. I also do not run with Vsync on obviously however I have tested this on and off for this issue and with it on it just creates a slightly larger fps drop which was expected to happen.
I use OBS Studio for recording only and not streaming at all. I have tested both codec types as well just to confirm that and neither really make a difference.
If anyone knows the reason for this or a fix it will be massively appreciated :)
