Major FPS Drops w/ Ryzen 9 7950x & Radeon RX 7900 XTX

I'm not using an extended display, but I am using an LG C2 Series 65-Inch OLED TV as my monitor.

May mess with TV settings tomorrow.

Actually, I'll do something better and borrow a regular computer monitor and try recording while connected to that.

Go for it, it's not playing well with OBS ATM anyway. Hopefully a fix is already in the works. Also, if you have Super Res enabled, disable that too.

Set everything @ 60FPS, make sure HAGS/Game DVR are disabled & test.

FWIW, I'm running a 12900k/3090 & I do all my 2160p encoding @ 30FPS, utilizing both NVENC (Recording) & QSV (Streams).

Pretty sure it's just broken. It does the same stuttering outside of OBS. It's actually even worse in Adrenalin.

Pretty disappointed with my XTX. It's shockingly slow, and doesn't seem to be able to do anything. I wouldn't say I "cheaped out" by purchasing a 7900 XTX. I spent 1,000 dollars on this thing and it can't even record a video game in decent quality.

If this is a factory defect, I should be able to return it.

Agreed. I assume you have plenty of headroom on that 7950X, try x264 & see if the stuttering remains. Might be able to get by until the new GPU driver is ready.

I have finally fixed some of my shuttering that started after I upgraded to an RX7900XTX+5800X3D,
I had installed the HWiNFO stream deck plugin to monitor the temp of the CG but it was causing a big consumtion of ram and cpu (15% for a 8/16 core cpu!)

As you are using OBS I was wondering if you maybe using the same plugin with a stream deck ?, the HWiNFO plugin was just installed not even configured

Plugin issue on GH

I'm not using a stream deck. My Ryzen 9 7950x was at like 40% and damn close to 95 C last night streaming Hogwarts at 30 Mbps.

I think it was just the game, though. For some reason, every time I try to stream Wo Long, there is always periodic stuttering, which makes the video unwatchable, in my opinion. (I wouldn't watch a video like that).

However, I tried it with a few other games the other day, and it seems to be actually working now.

OBS also got a major update today. Going to try out the new features.

I only see 110 on the junction temp of my card when I start messing with the settings. If I try to overclock or "rage", the junction temp immediately goes up to 110. I don't think this is an issue, but I really should run some kind of test to make sure. Otherwise, on default settings, the junction temp is typically around 90 to 95 C under 100% GPU utilization.

O yea. I wanted to ask you guys if there is a dedicated encoder or something like that you can install into your PC to handle the task of recording and streaming? Of course, I could buy a second graphics card to do that, but that sounds unreasonably expensive. Is there another option? Like an external device that is used for streaming and recording only? I think that would be the best setup, but purchasing a second graphics card solely for this task would be overkill.

Actually, if I can find a GPU with an AV1 encoder for around 100 dollars, I might just set this up. But do it exist? Just get an Intel A380?

I am actually having something similar in VR Games but have a 3080. About a year ago it was working fine... i have 2 pcs but do the gameplay recording on my main pc because its 1440p. The Camera / Voice goes on the secondary pc just to remove that bit of load. 1 year after i try the same again but now, as soon as i hit "start recording" the game starts showing some glitches (not in OBS, the actual game... tried in a couple). I even tried what i consider some games that are less resource hungry but something happens. Which leads me to think its some sort of conflict between obs recording and steamvr? Not very technical but it was working a year ago this way and my setup hasnt changed. Ill consider opening a post about it with some logs.

Hello,
I see a video on youtube that explains that changing the source parameter 'Display Capture' to 'Game Capture' solves the problem for him.

Can you try?

Yes. I have tried everything, and there is not a solution. There is an encoding overloaded error while I'm playing the game which causes the stuttering, and I guess my 4 thousand dollar high-end system is not powerful enough to both record and play a game.

Try installing OBS version 28.1.2
I'm using an RX 580 and my recording quality tanked after updating to 29.1.1

Listen its a driver/obs since obs 27 there are nunerous issues with fps drops. All this rubbish about all amd system is bs . I also have an amd 5900x and 7900xt. I vr and vr stream, i had a 5700xt a few months back all amd stream duel pc np. 7900xt struggles immediately on opening obs . There are known issues with multi monitors on amd 7900 driver , high idle powers. I have been messing around with my 7900xt for months. The raw compute power is more than enough to stream at 1080p. Yet obs chomps my fps in vr by nearly 40%. Simply having obs open again around 30 %. I have tried everything u can change on obs. Windows and in game. Its shocking in its current state. My little old 5700xt has no such problems on the same board and cpu. Its clear amd has a lot of work to do on the drivers. This is the only solution. I have reinstalled the card. Obs. Used ddu also nothing. 2d games play luke magic 3d struggles. Even 2d games lose 20% fps when simply opening obs in admin mode as well.

What is a big warning sign is the fact u cant factory reinstall amd drivers for7900 series as this is blocked. This being it corrupted windows if windows update ran when u driver updated.

I used relive amd streaming software its pretty much 5% max fps drop for but the quality is not the best. But it shows that amd have invested time for the drivers on relive but not for other streaming tools.

Simply playing games via steam vr ( use a g2 reverb) is trash on the 7900xt. I have to use openxr which is a godsend. I ahd no problems with steam on my 5700xt.

Hopefully soon it will be fixed. Try relive . Its user interface is trash but really lets u stream with low fps drop

I found out that this error I was experiencing is game specific. I got confused because it happens in two games, Wo Long and Elden Ring. They are both created by the same company and are very similar games. So, that actually makes sense.

Recording with my AMD card is better than the Intel A380 LOL. There are some bugs with AV1, it seems, on both Intel and AMD. I usually just do HEVC because I find it to be more reliable.

As long as I don't play Wo Long or Elden Ring, I find the recordings I am getting at the moment are pretty good. Elden Ring is still watchable, even with the frame dips. Wo Long is worse, though. No idea why. It is probably the 7000 series drivers.

I've not tried anything with VR.
