Question / Help Major FPS drop in Minecraft while having OBS open

I've seen this mentioned in other threads but most of them are old or have to do with obs classic.

I've run a mac and i can average around 30 fps in game(I know it's not stellar). What's odd to me and why i post this is that as soon as i open obs, even before engaging video capture my fps in-game drops to around 10 fps. i have plenty of RAM available and hard drive isn't anywhere close to running at capacity when this happens. Can anyone give me ideas on settings i need to update or change that will help make it so i'm not losing 2/3rd's frame rate in game so i can play and share that playing. BTW when i do stream i find i don't have any problems with the stream as far as lag and it easily handles 2400 bitrate.

Log file from sample stream. This happens though if i'm streaming, recording, or just have obs open:

So I just tracked this down tonight.

If the OBS window is visible, then it has to draw in the window, and that slows things down greatly.

I had a game go from 24 fps to 55 fps just by having the OBS window hidden and not doing drawing.

Does disabling the preview also do this, or does it take the hit even when the OBS window is drawing only its UI and not a preview?
