M1 macs - Full HD recording

hi

currently using OBS on both Mac (Intel i5, integrated graphics, OSX 10.12.6) and Pc (Intel i7 8 core, Nvidia RTX 3060, Win 10 all updates done) for video capturing piano tutorials

the i7 + NVIDIA manages full HD recording after auto setup wizard
the i5 Mac not quite, and that's ok
my question:
is anyone running one of the new mac minis with M1 chip doing any video captures with OBS and manages to obtain a full HD 1080p?
Thinking of buying and not sure yet. Doing HD, maybe 4k in the future is top priority.
Thanking you and happy 2022

Hello! My name is James and I would be happy to help you!

The M1 Mac Minis are much more capable than I originally thought before I got mine. I am running personal live streams for our church at 1080p and 1440p on an M1 Mac Mini with 0 issues whatsoever (however I do need to note that on the M1 Mac Mini I am not using OBS - I am using different software).

I have done some UHD work with it too and it handles it perfectly fine. I also do some pretty heavy 4k editing in Adobe Premiere Pro 2022 with effects, coloring, and rendering and have no system issues or bottlenecks.

To answer your question, yes the M1 Mac Minis should work perfectly fine in 1080p, 1440p, and even 4k within OBS.

Hopefully this helps,
Happy Streaming!

I used a software program called "Ecamm Live." It is a lot like OBS and still works with NDI, virtual inputs and outputs, and connecting to Zoom for online broadcasting/teaching. I like both programs, however, Ecamm Live does cost money whereas OBS is free.
