Lower third transition for church service readings

How do I create a lower third transition that appears and then fades? I want to place a graphic over the image of our pastor as he reads the Bible readings during the service . I've looked everywhere, even watched a video where they guy said it worked (it didn't). I don't want to download from a third party.

Do you want to place a graphic or the bible text over the pastors image?
---> two different approaches.

Typical lower-thirds consist of a small graphic and super-short message, like the pastors name, the slogan of the sermon or ultra-short announcements. Look for the popular lower-thirds plugin in the ressources section of this forum.

If you want to show complete bible verses instead (longer text with wrap and layout) most people do overlay of something of powerpoint/impress, songbeamer or other solutions. (Window-capture of those program), using a unicolor background like green in those slides with a chromakey filter on that source (to make all but the text itself translucent to arrange these slides _over_ the pastors camera).

That are the two usual solutions for that.

Regarding the fading:

typical lower thirds usually fly-in and fly-out.

Bible verses as text overlay do usually fade like this: Make two scenes. One of all elements (including the pastors cam) without the slides overlay, and one scene with them. Then do a usual fade transition between these two scenes: the text appears softly and disappears softly as you wish.
