Question / Help Low upload - Will a double PC conf helps ?

Hello,

So I have a very poor upload now, like 0.80Mbps...
I was wondering, if I use a 2nd PC as the encoder (it's an i5 something, Haswell) will I be able to use a stronger compression and thus will be able to stream ?

I would like to achieve 720p @ 30fps but well, let's target 480p @ 25 fps.

What do you think ? Will this change anything ?

You might be able to stream some retro gaming with that since you have like 700 kbps for video and 64 kbps for audio on top of it which is OK for low-motion 480p. For 720p you need at least 1 mbps for low-motion or 1.5 to 2.0 for "regular" gameplay. You can try to use a slow preset but the quality enhancement is pretty much negletable. And this is only for "offline"-games where you don't need any bandwidth for the game itself.

Diminishing returns kicks in pretty hard compared to having low bitrates. Not to mention with just an i5 you're not going to be able to get your preset very low, maybe you can do Fast or Faster.

To answer your question, yes you'll be able to use stronger compression, but no, it won't be worth streaming (most things, as mentioned low movement games may be acceptable). IMO its not worth the money you'll spend setting up a second PC to do all this. If the PC is already purchased and you want to try it for fun, then sure go for it, you'll get something out of it, just not a lot.

Thx for the replies !

So yes I have the second PC already, but it's my mediacenter and I didn't wanted to break everything before I had some advices :)

I also thought about a VPN with compression to a 100Mbits server, but I'm not confident...

Looks like I'm stuck with streaming Hearstone in 480p... with H4ndy configuration it kinda works.
