Question / Help Low Latency Mode

Can someone tell what is Low Latency Mode and what does it do?

Its recommended to use?

I only have 0.86 mb/s of upload, and i used to use 500 bitrate and 500 buffer to stream, and i sometimes still lag a bit. (sometimes 150/170)

Today i checked this "Low Latency Mode", and my lag is like when im not streaming (about 70/80), and i up my bitrate to 600, and i still get no lags :D

Can someone explain to my what this do?

It does exactly what you describe, it tries to reduce latency caused by the stream. The potential downside is a higher risk of dropped frames if you have a bad connection to the streaming server.

in layman terms, it tries to minimize any lag in other network applications caused by the stream. for example, on systems with poorer network cards and routers, streaming can cause high ping in a multiplayer game. the fix tries to minimize that problem.

why ? how it works ?

if it use pid application for some priority over another pid (stream) : no need in two pc setup

use some buffer to have a more continous curve : ok i understand the ip proto advantage in two pc setup

Re: Automatic low latency mode

AFAIK it's regulating the aggressiveness of the low latency mode algorithm and should not be used unless you have problems with the minimize network impact option.

So you just turn it on and see if it's beneficial and if not turn it off?

I get ping spikes about every minute or so when I'm streaming. I assume it's my ISP, but I've never had issues with them before and OBS used to be rock solid.

Use "Minimize network impact" in broadcast settings. Don't change the advanced settings.

It cleared up some latency issues, but not all of them. I'm still getting spikes and valleys. OBS bandwidth usage spikes and then dips for about half a second every 20seconds or so. Turning on the low latency mode limited how often this happens, but it still happens.

I'll have to try CBR later tonight. I haven't streamed in over a month. I haven't had networking related OBS issues since like pre .452, so this is a little disconcerting.

Is anyone willing to explain latency tuning factor in more detail? Without a description it's just a number and I don't know what going up or down would do or what the units for it represent.
