Question / Help Low ingame fps when streaming

I have just started streaming again, and I noticed that I get really bad fps drops ingame when I start streaming. I get around 100+ fps while playing any games without streaming, but as soon as I start actually streaming, everything drops to 60-70 fps which isn't that playable for me with a 144hz monitor.

My specs are:
GTX 1080
i7 6700k 4.4ghz
16gb ram

Here is a log of my previous stream: https://gist.github.com/0022e8881d682dc9f0ae9d715617f12e

Try UFO test to double check if both your monitors are actually 144 Hz. https://www.testufo.com/

If it drops to 60 fps or something, then your second monitor might not be running at 144 Hz.

Try turning off G-Sync on one or both monitors (try turn off g-sync on secondary monitor first).

There is a windows 10 problem with mixed refresh rates. Anything on slower refresh rate slows down a faster Hz monitor.

Just did the ufo test, both monitors run it at 144fps just fine.

Some games like "The Division" use a lot of CPU. You can try different games to check if the problem is limited CPU speed.

You can limit x264 threads with custom x264 option: threads=6 or less to leave some room for games. Too little threads may overload encoder. Or, try NVENC, quality will be different and might not be as good as x264.

Ideally, it is best to have a separate computer do the streaming, with HDMI PCI-E capture card or USB 3.0 (or better) capture device.
