Question / Help Low FPS | But why?

Specs:
AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core (Vishera)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 2GB
8GB DDR3

My graphics card isn't the best and plan on upgrading soon but I was informed that x264 recording is put on your processor. So I'm not really sure why I am getting the extremely low FPS.

The game runs fine but while I am trying to record the FPS just drops dramatically to about 6-15 FPS. My CPU usage is not even being touched, alongside my Memory and Disk aren't either.

I am really confused on what's going on here.

I am on Windows 10, could that be the problem?

I have literally tried everything when it comes to the settings. Looked at plenty of videos on the best settings, etc.

I've also noticed if I am previewing the game i am recording the fps will be at 30 if i am not actively in the window but as soon as i click inside of the window the fps drops crazy

I haven't got one at the moment, do I need to full on record something to see the issue or...?

I am just now testing fraps and dxtory, dxtory runs well and 60fps on high quality.

Just wanted to join in this thread in that I am having similar issues. I can stream some games perfectly fine with no FPS issues. However, I tried doing it with Doom 3 today, 60 fps while playing normally and then when I hit preview in OBS, it is still 60 fps until I select the window and it drops to a consistent 15 fps. I did try tweaking the settings and I haven't had this issue up until the last week or so.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
