Question / Help Low end GPU, New CPU and MOBO, lagged frames?

Hi, I've been trying to stream Fortnite on my gaming PC. It has a

Ryzen 5 1600,

16GB of RAM clocked at 3000mhz,

MSI B350M motherboard.

Streaming on veryfast preset, 60fps, 3k bitrate. Something a R5 1600 should have no problem with.

Now here where I kind of think the problem might be, is my Graphics card. It's only a GTX 460. However, I didn't think OBS really needed much GPU power. The game runs just fine on my end.

Here's an example in a VoD:

Thanks in advance!

Turn Game DVR off just in case.

What kind of Elgato device are you using?

01:55:31.629: Output 'adv_stream': Total frames output: 38407
01:55:31.629: Output 'adv_stream': Total drawn frames: 37414 (38506 attempted)
01:55:31.629: Output 'adv_stream': Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 1092 (2.8%)

Yeah so I agree its probably your GPU. When I first used OBS I used a GTX 560Ti, and it was just fine, but my old GTX 260 (or 280? I don't remember which) was horrible. I've since learned that the GTX200 series lacked a crucial feature that OBS needs. Hardly anyone posts about the GTX 400 series. I have to assume the features that OBS needs wasn't added until the GTX 500 series. OBS does use the GPU and needs it to be (relatively) fast at doing... technical things which I forget the name of. This makes OBS run better on modern GPUs comparing to other video encoding software but hurts users of older GPUs.

Could be wrong so you should still troubleshoot it. Like I said hardly ever see anyone post with a GTX 400 series.

Not using an elgato device, just have one plugged in from streaming my Xbox One.

Kind of unfortunate news, but at least I have more than just a sneaking suspicion of my GPU. I'll keep an eye on this thread just in case someone else might know a potential fix.

Thanks for your help!

Recommended GPU for Fortnite is GTX 660 and above. To give you a sense of where your GTX 460 stands against the crowd, you are running is in the lower tier of Passmark's GPU ratings. Go get a GTX 1050, they are about $125 now and you'll be fine.
