If you did not record anything and there is nothing on the video file (even in a good video player such as VLC/MPC), then there's nothing to recover. Sounds like something slipped by capture and you probably just didn't realize it.

Otherwise, if the video file does actually work then that's another story.

If the video file is very large, you may have to view it with VLC 64bit. If it played in the OBS preview then it definitely should have appeared on the video, any time something appears in the preview it's basically guarantee to be recorded.

Windows media player often cannot play back video from OBS files without proper codecs installed. My advice would be to get the 64bit version of VLC and see if it works there instead. I'm pretty confident it did actually record the video if you stated that the preview showed the video while recording and you were monitoring it.

i tried that and that did not work. this is a huge inconvieniance because thats 6 hours of work down the drain. vlc just stops responding.

Post the OBS log file from that capture.

Download this: http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo and post the media info from the file you saved.

Try other players, like Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player. I've routinely saved files that long (I think my record was 11 straight hours) using OBS and they played back fine. Sometimes in certain players they take numerous seconds to begin playback, if they're large though.
