No assistance is needed, I just wanted to share a solution to a problem.
I've worked on this two weeks and finally today noticed a pattern, and wanted to share it, thus this post. The Logitech Spotlight has been available for a couple of years, and it is quite nice for highlighting items or areas on a screen during a presentation as there is no concern for washout whether using a projector or a television.
But I could not get OBS to capture the spotlight. Finally, after following the excellent directions in this forum to fix the black screen issue (old laptop), I discovered that if I wake up the pointer before opening OBS, then set the source to display capture, it will record the spotlight in the video, yay!
For my laptop, the only settings that worked were forcing the Logitech software, Microsoft Edge Beta browser, and OBS64.exe to use the Intel Integrated graphics 4600 video device both in the control panel settings and the NVIDIA control panel utility.
Finally, I set OBS to use the QSVHelper.exe for the output encoder.
New user here, and I love OBS, it is my new favorite capture software. Donation coming shortly, my gratitude goes to the developers, well done!
Summary:
Logitech Spotlight - use the latest version of software
HP Envy laptop - update all drivers, set all relevant apps/utils to use Intel Integrated graphics: OBS, browser, Spotlight software
Set video to extended display if using hdmi, native resolution for best results
Set OBS to use QSVHelper.exe encoder
Open Logitech Spotlight software, wake up pointer by pressing a button
Open OBS with no sources, then add new source: display capture, click ok then select the desired display
Ensure the canvas size matches the display resolution
You should then be able to capture the Spotlight in the captured video! :)
Hope this helps!
