Question / Help Logitech C920 Webcam Not Working in OBS Studio

Hello, I'm new to the forum. Still getting a feel for where to post so feel free to move thread if needed.

As the title says, I can't get my webcam to show up in OBS Studio. The camera itself works and shows up when using the Logitech Camera Window as supplied by the software.

As for my setup. Webcam is plugged directly into PC (no hub). I'm running Windows 7, 32 bit. Everything else within OBS is working properly. I even have the stacking order correct with the Webcam (Video Capture Device) at the top (so, it's not being hidden by any other elements).

I also created just a single single Scene and just the Webcam as the only source and still get nothing. The only "thing" that shows up when I add Webcam is a single red dot in upper left corner. I'm completely at a loss why the webcam isn't showing up. Please, any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Not sure what other kind of infor I need to give you guys and gals. So, if it's not already stated, please let me know what else is needed. Thanks.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

I'm using Version 19.0.2 OBS

Are you using Avast/AVG? If so, you need to update your definitions, otherwise Avast/AVG may block webcam use (I know, it's strange, but it was a bug recently with Avast/AVG that they fixed)

If that's not it, let me know.

Try passive mode in Avast/AVG, then try again. (Again not sure if that's causing it, but just checking first)

Edit: Note that you'll probably have to restart OBS after doing that.

Ah, so maybe it wasn't AVG/Avast after all, thank goodness. I was worried that maybe it still had a problem.

Okay, so let's determine what's going on here then. Please show me your last log file -- Help menu -> Log files -> Upload last log file -> Link it here.

Hm, that's not the sort of log file I was looking for. Okay, instead do this: Run the program, get the problem to happen, then instead, do Help menu -> Log files -> Upload current log file (not last) -> then link it here again.

Hm, okay it definitely wasn't AVG/Avast or anything, here's the error message that popped up in the log file:

21:56:02.722: DShow: Run failed, device already in use (0x8007001F): A device attached to the system is not functioning.

Although it says "already in use" sometimes that log message can happen in other cases, but it says that because usually that's what it means -- the device is in use. More important part is "A device attached to the system is not functioning."

You're not using it in skype or some other program while trying to use it in OBS are you? You can only use a webcam or capture device in one program at a time on the computer. If that's not it, then something else unusual is going on that I haven't really seen before.

The only thing I'm using is the Logitech Window (where I am able to set my preferences, adjust gain, etc....). Using this is what turns the camera on (with Blue Light). When I close out the Logitech Window, this turns Camera Off, Blue Light goes away. So, while not running it through Logitech, I still try to open Webcam inside of OBS just to see if it works or turns on through that. It doesn't. I don't use Skype or any other program other than what I just outlined here.

Ok. I got it to work. But what's odd is that I played with Custom multiple times and it never connected until just now. Not sure what's going on there. Let's hope it stays this way.

Make sure you installed the actual driver for the camera and not just the Logitech Gaming Software. Logitech redesigned their website and it's thrown so many people off. The actual driver is below the Logitech Gaming Software download. Grab that and update your camera. Then you can use any custom setting in OBS Studio and it'll work just fine. I have the same camera so I understand.

I found that LWS takes control of the C920 and it won't open in OBS..
I have LWS disabled and my C920 works fine..

Open Task manager and in Processes. right click on LWS and END PROCESS..
Restart OBS.

If you don't install the LWS software you will not have the Webcam Control for configuring the cam.
If you just disable the LWS you will still have the cam control when you configure the cam in OBS.

Hi everyone -

I know this thread is old but hopefully someone can help. My OBS and C920 worked just fine until today. I realized that there was a Windows 10 update last night that must be the problem (I haven't installed, changed, etc. anything else since everything worked until now). When I open OBS, the lights on my C920 will flash as if it's trying to initialize but then goes dark after it gives up. I have pulled my camera up in Zoom, G-Hub, etc. and they all seem to work fine in the other programs. None of these programs are running when I'm trying to use OBS, so it shouldn't be a conflict.

Here is my current log:

Any help would be appreciated!
