Question / Help Local Recordings are Laggy but game is not

Hi everyone. I have been trying to record games but I can't get it right. I followed the popular guide on this site to get HD 1080p 60fps recordings. This is the guide https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/how-to-make-high-quality-local-recordings.16/
I used crf=15, i know worse rigs than mine can handle that so that number should be fine...

The game runs smooth and fine when I am recording but the video recording is choppy, it seems every 3 seconds or so it'll just freeze for a second and play on, rinse and repeat.

I really don't think my PC is the issue, I have 8gb RAM, i5 4690k cpu, and nvidia GTX970 gpu.

Has anyone seen this before and can help me?

set preset to superfast or maybe even ultrafast. an i5 isn not ideal for recording and playing a game at the same time, especially without hyperthreading.

At that, make sure CS:GO does not have the launch options of -threads or -high as these will cause issues with OBS and recording.

I set it to ultrafast and it seems it solved the problem! However, i noticed my cpu usage was extremely high. is that a bad thing? I've got 212 EVO cpu cooler in there as well.

a typical system that will handle 1080@60 is an i7, so yes, you should be maxed out. Ultrafast just lessoned the load on the CPU since you were pushing the encoder to hard
