Question / Help Live Comments with 2 headphones - can we hear what the other one says ?

Hello,

I'm using OBS 22.0.2 and questionning myself about this :
I run OBS in order to stream live sport game events. Last year, i streamed only video on testing purposes. This year, the video is ok, so i'm testing the comments. With only one mike/headset, there is absolutely no problem, because i know what to say, when to say so it's ok.

We ll have a big event coming in march, and a friend of mine proposed to comment the championship with me. I guess there will be no problem with the mike/headsets because one is USB, the other one will be on the regular audio-out/mike-in jack. But both headset are designed to protect the user from the outside noise/sound and there are quite chances that we won't be able to hear each other, even if we sit at the same table (the game is loud, the audience will be shouting...)... So i was wondering if there was a way to hear the live sound in the headset (what both people are saying), some kind of sound monitoring, hopefully without delay nor sound problem (2 sound inputs) ;)

Thanks for your tip :)

Regards
S.

You can do it, but that's beyond the scope of what OBS can do. OBS is set up to monitor any source's audio by outputting it to the default audio device. Past that, you have to use separate programs for audio routing.

From personal experience, I can tell you that it is possible by use of virtual audio cables (including getting things routed so that you don't hear yourself), but doing so is very complicated, results in significant latency, floating sync, and a the reliability isn't perfect.

You're much better off getting a mixer and doing it all in analog, with multiple XLR mics, and plugging both headsets directly into the mixer. That way you can monitor yourself in realtime, and feed that directly into OBS.

Thanks for your answer... I'll see what I can do, including keek using the headsets but with one hear uncovered ;)

Hi!, can you tell me how you solve it?, i have the same problematic
Well, we've had a live session 10 days ago and we had to be very cautious of what the other one was saying. It's also true that we're using gamer" headsets that are very protective regarding the external noise/sound. It may not be the best solution either ;)

I thought i've found the solution with the "audio monitoring" in the advanced audio properties, and tested it at home, but it wasn't efficient on location. I may have not heard the right thing :(

So, So far, i haven't found a real solution and still looking for a way to do it, including getting an external mixer, but it means spending money, and it's not ok for the moment.. ;)
