Bug Report [League of Legends] Dropping 75%+ frames per session

BluuS

New Member
I have used OBS in the past back in 2012. I streamed League of Legends and it worked fine back then. However, now with OBS for the past couple of months (haven't really tried streaming) I seem to drop a MASSIVE amount of frames. In game, I could get an easy 100+ FPS. With the stream on, I still get a good amount (70+, although it certainly does not LOOK like 70+, more like 40~). But the actual stream itself drops a lot of frames and is in turn unwatchable. I've included a log of a session where the issue occurred again.

I am using a high-end laptop, it has worked before but does not anymore now that OBS has been updated several times. I have tried with aero on and aero off, it makes no difference.

I have also tried different settings, with lower bitrates as well as quality and different server locations. These settings below are generally the "recommended" settings from the estimator. I have about 4.5 Mb/s upload speed.

If anyone could shed some light onto my situation, please do.

You are using Monitor Capture with Aero on which is the why you are getting all your lagged frames and low performance. Ontop of that you are using Game Capture so pick one or the other, and if you still want to use Monitor Capture disable Aero. For best performance turn on Aero then use Window Capture as Monitor Capture is by far the slowest method in Windows 7. Unticking a source does not disable it, it will only hide it.

For your dropped frames try changing ingest servers (LA Secondary is better than SF for me as an example). If that does not work lower your bitrate; make sure other people aren't using the internet, use a wired connection, and if all else fails run a speedtest at testmy.net to make sure you are getting your full upload.

If I disable Aero, can I use Monitor Capture AND Game Capture? I want to be able to capture my monitor while the game is off so the stream isn't just pure black when out of the game.

I removed the Monitor Capture and tested to see how it would fair, and I still drop a lot of frames.

My upload is about 3.3 Mb/s at testmy.net, so in the second log, I lowered the bitrate even further. No one else is using the Internet but me, and it is stable as can be.

Well your lagged frames are all gone without Monitor Capture so all your in game lag should be gone. If you don't want to play in borderless window you should set up 2 scenes. One for Monitor Capture, and one for Game Capture using this plugin to auto switch if you so desire viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1785.

I am not really sure why you are still dropping frames even though you lowered bitrate. I live much closer to SF, but LA Secondary still works better for me overall. Quite a few people have been saying they are dropping frames or high ping now with the newest OBS build. Maybe someone else can chime in.

I put it in borderless window just now and used only Monitor Capture + Video Capture Device. I disabled Aero of course, yet I am still dropping a significant amount of frames. The bitrate was left at what it was previously as that should not be a problem.

If you want to try come into chat to see what other things we can try. Try like 500 bitrate then see if you are still dropping frames. If you are then something is quite wrong, and if you don't try raising it up until you start dropping frames. Also lagged frames don't have anything to do with dropped frames.

I just tried a quick test at 500 Kb/s bitrate and I don't drop nearly as many frames, but it still does drop a handful.
