I am planning on getting a AverMedia Live Gamer Portable and using it in a dual computer setup. I would be using my desktop to actually play the games and other computers that are being tested. I am only going to list the important part of the specs of each.
Main Rig:
Phenom II X6 1045t @3.00GHz
8GB Kingston HyperX Red
Gigabyte R9 390 G1 Gaming Edition(8GB version)
Laptop:
i7-4510u Dual Core HT
8GB DDR3 (normal voltage)
Nvidia Geforce 840M 2GB DDR3
3xUSB 3.0

I just want to make sure that the laptop can handle running OBS and using the capture device to record and stream. I understand how dual computer setups work, but this is my first personal one.

Would recommend looking at the XCAPTURE-1. Avermedia's USB gear tends to have weird issues due to their design and implementation. If the XCAP isn't an option, the Elgato HD60 would be possible, even if it would incur a capture delay.

Looks like that laptop should be able to run OBS though.

I will be upgrading my CPU to a FX-8320 soon as well. The only reason I have the Phenom was it's free and came with the motherboard :P
