Question / Help Laggy fortnite/pc

Hey guys, i have a ryzen 1700 and a radeon 580, 16gb ram etc.
I stream fortnite at twitch.tv/aristant (if you want to see the issue)
When playing fortnite i will freeze on the loading screen, if im in voice comms with someone they will chop up and the sound from other things will also.
It will lag when i Die, and skip frames a bit, if im getting shot i notice on stream it lags and skips, stupid shit like that
I noticed sometimes when i open epic games launcher it freezes my pc a bit.

This is getting very old, and this is a new pc for the most part, upgraded the gpu ram mobo and cpu less than 5 weeks ago.

I have done a fresh install of windows, defragged, done comprehensive virus checks, etc.

This is really getting terrible.

How can i fix this?
 
Make sure your webcam resolution is as low as possible to fit your webcam layout. Do not set the webcam resolution to 1920x1080 or 1280x720. This caused me several FPS/stream issues.

For Fortnite PC on a Ryzen 1700 and RX 580, you should be able to do 720@60 2500-4500 bitrate, faster just fine.

Your problems seem to characterize CPU load problems. Since you know what areas in the game trigger issues consistently, reproduce those issues and watch the processes that are floating to the top of the list. Task Manager isn't the greatest of tools to use for Process monitoring as it can be inaccurate. So go download SysInternals Suite's Process Explorer 64 by Microsoft (its free) to give you a more accurate picture. Sort on the CPU column and watch what is hitting the CPU in the areas you know about.

Watch obs64.exe CPU levels, watch FortniteClient-Win64-Shipping.exe CPU levels. Know what is "normal" levels. If the combination of the two are pushing things too high, you need to reduce things like bitrate, resolution, FPS, in game settings.

If one or more processes other than the two cause load to start peaking above 90%, then you need to address that by shutting those outside processes off. Especially processes that are doing 5% or more. In general, you don't want to be running stuff you don't need. Things like:
- Apps and services in the Startup folder that can be disabled
- Chrome, Edge, or other browsers (you should be running the browser on a separate computer/laptop/tablet your Twitch/YouTube admin consoles)
- Making sure Windows update is set to non-hours when you stream
- Etc.

there is nothing out of the ordinary, system idle never really goes below 50 and fortnite runs at about 15-25%

If not, the observations dont mean anything. It has to be at known points and the problems triggered.

When you say that Epic Launcher pauses when executing, that has nothing to do with OBS Studio nor even Fortnite. Its why I am leaning towards this not even being an OBS Studio issue at all but rather something peculiar with your computer. Because if this was a Ryzen 1700 issue, everyone including myself would be complaining about it. Right?

Post a current log to give us an idea of what we are working with.

its not an issue with obs, its just a problem im having, it happens whether i have obs open or if i dont.
 
Ok, so its basically not an OBS issue at all as I felt was the case. Something isn't right with your system...

I would suggest updating your BIOS and checking to make sure the RAM you are using is on the QVL list of the motherboard vendor to rule out hardware problems. Be aware that Ryzen is new and that coming out of the gate it wasn't all that stable.

Also now that I think of it, consider it maybe a networking issue either on your LAN or with your ISP. The common thing here is that you said Epic Launcher pauses (which is communicating over the Internet) and Fortnite is giving you headaches. It may not be Fortnite related at all but network issue.

Do a test by stressing your LAN and ISP by watching an archived (not Live) YouTube video to see if there are any problems. If it starts to lag, skip, etc, its your ISP or there are too many devices on your LAN stealing up/down bandwidth.

this issue never happened on my last build of my pc, much worst and outdated pc. I already updated all my drivers.
 
Update Bios + reinstalling Windows is usually the easiest fix here. I hope you are running OS + Most games on an SSD
 
Are you running any overclocks? Because either CPU or RAM overclocks could be causing that

Also you are having radeon 580 which isn't the strongest GPU, so you might want to cap FPS lower in fortnite, watched your stream back and your FPS is jumping a lot. So if you really want to have smooth streaming experience, you should cap the FPS at 60 in fornite.

a 580 isnt a strong gpu? are you looking at a different gpu than me? My gpu is $400 rn haha.

Well the prices don't mean much right now, and i said "not the strongest" it is like mid tier GPU right now, Pretty much in line with 1060. But yea it should be good enough for games like fortnite. You really need to post the log with streaming attempt in it, otherwise no one here can help you :D
