I have been messing around with obs trying to find the best options for recording but no matter what it always lags my game out. Whenever i close it after making my game lag, the game still lags and i have to close and re-open it. I looked through many videos seeing what they do etc.. I can never find anything perfect.
I am new to it all and just want to record some games with friends so any type of help will go a long way. Thanks.

I have :
8GB RAM
I7-4790 3.60GHz
GTX 1050ti
OBS SETTINGS :

Is there a reason you're using custom ffmpeg output?

Start with Simple output mode, NVENC encoder if you have it, and High or Indistinguishable quality.

And save in FLV or MKV, not MP4. If recording is interrupted by a crash or other error, the mp4 will be unrecoverable whereas the FLV or MKV file will be fine.

It’s what I saw use on most videos so I thought try it since it’s something different and okay. Will try it soon. Thanks for the reply.

I also recommend using Standard type and NVENC encoder as Narcogen suggested. For local recordings since you can bump the bit rate up as high as you want it's probably best to use CQP Rate Control at 15 or higher. This will provide a constant quality standard and file size can be variable. I have heard very good success with this.

This should have minimal impact to your CPU and produce a nice looking video quality.

Thank you very much for your help. I shall try it all tomorrow and come back with results. Hopefully this should fix it. Thanks both.
