Key color spill reduction does nothing

I have a green screen setup that is not professional but is OK. The Chroma Key filter works quite well, except that there is too much spill, i.e., a green fringe around the outline of the person. The setting to help with this would seem to be Key Color Spill Reduction, but when I increase its value, all it does is desaturate the keyed image. It does not reduce the spill at all.

I've done a little chroma key work in video editors like Premiere Pro and the spill suppression there can be quite effective.

Am I missing something for how to use this properly in OBS? Any tips would be appreciated.

Hmm... the internet is telling me that 3 feet is not enough. Let me try to create more distance.

Update: Was able to make it 4 feet. That helped. Still wish the spill reduction did something though.

6 years later it looks like you don't have any responses which is pretty sad because I've got the same problem
the spill reduction setting does absolutely nothing as far as reducing the amount of spill desaturates the image and everything is black and white
It really seems that either I am missing something and using it in a completely wrong way or its completely broken
