What do you mean with "the update"? Windows 7? Windows 10? OBS? "the programs"? Something else?
In general, with modern software, the consensus within expert users is to always use the latest version of all software.
Update whenever an update is available, and patch whenever a patch is available. Don't select by the contents of the update. Just install them all.
There is no update and no patch that should be skipped. This mantra is different to what was consensus some years ago. It changed, because these days patch and update cycles are much faster, so if you update to something that is broken, you can expect a fix much faster than before. If it comes to patches that deal with security, the risk of damage (and thus lost productivity) due to a missed update is much bigger than the productivity lost due to some broken feature that is fixed in the next update anyway.
