Question / Help I've got a weird problem with streaming Overwatch

Hi,

I didn't have any problem with streaming other games, but overwatch doesn't want to be streamed apparently.

I'm using game capture with overlays.

After ~1-2 min, the obs preview freeze, I can't stop the streaming anymore (keeps saying "Stopping Stream...") and it's not even connected (0 kb/s).

Here is the log file: https://gist.github.com/3c9f4616c92cc224a4ad74eb315cdea9

I think you have enough infos inside the log file. If you want me to try something, just ask.

Thanks in advance!

I don't really know when this started because I don't stream often.

I have the Win10 AU, but I don't really want to uninstall it to test.

You probably don't have to uninstall the whole anniversary update. Just temporarily uninstalling KB3176938 would probably do. Again, this is just to test to rule it out or confirm that it's the problem. The error message in your log is identical to those of others who have experienced problems with KB3176938. If it makes you uncomfortable to have KB3176938 removed, you can always reinstall it after testing. However, if that is the problem, then the trade-off is that you may not be able to stream as you usually do until the issue is patched.

Additionally, if you were to find that KB3176938 is the problem, please let Microsoft know via their Feedback Hub.

So, yeah, the culprit is KB3176938. After I uninstalled it, everything worked well.

The new problem is : windows update keeps installing it after some time, I had to remove it again today.

I tried to use "Windows update show / hide" from Microsoft to temporarily block this update (wushowhide.diagcab), but the update doesn't show in the list, so I think it might try to reinstall it again shortly.

Windows 10 will not allow you to permanently avoid an update. If KB3176938 is causing issues for you, use the Windows 10 Feedback Hub to let Microsoft know they broke stuff, or update to the latest update (KB3189866) and see if this new update resolves it.

I've got crashes again but KB3176938 isn't installed. The new update to uninstall is KB3189866 ?

Edit : Nevermind, found it in another thread, going to try...

These two updates break OBS pretty hard. Recording in OpenGL mode is also a temporary solution but it makes the preview (and sometimes the resulting video) VERY choppy.

Yeah, the OpenGL mode is not a solution for me, it makes the preview like 3 fps, so I don't even imagine the resulting video...

"We encountered a network transmission issue that affected update 3189866, published on September 13, 2016. The quickest way to address this issue was to reissue the update to all Content Delivery Networks. This new update package, KB3193494, includes the same set of fixes as KB3189866."

OpenGL is rarely the solution for anyone on Windows. As I understand it, it's more meant for Mac/Linux users.

Yes, cumulative updates will supersede other updates. It's been this way for a long time on Windows. This one is even the same as its predecessor - it's just a reissue.

In short, if you're on Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update (Version 1607, or Build 14393) and you've updated on or after August 31, 2016, you may experience this problem. No need to memorize new KB numbers.

To elaborate... if you're on Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update (Version 1607, or Build 14393) and with a Revision of 105 or higher (check by running winver, or checking the "System" Control Panel item, or "About your PC"), and you find either of the following errors in your log:
16:16:35.800: device_texture_create (D3D11): Failed to create 2D texture (887A0005)
[...]
16:17:46.184: gs_texture_open_shared (D3D11): Failed to open resource (887A0005)

Then you probably have a complication stemming from something originally fixed in KB3176938, released on August 31, 2016. The full list of Windows 10 updates is here.

This will probably continue to be the case until either Microsoft fixes whatever they broke, or publicly explains that there is an alternative for applications such as OBS Studio to use.

Yeah I know I will eventually have to deal with this update, but I use this as a temporary fix until Microsoft or OBS fixes it.
I just sent the updated update numbers for other persons in my case that want a temporary fix.
The thing is that many people have automatic updates enabled, and thus will have this problem sooner or later.
