Question / Help Issue with audio monitoring after Windows 10 update

Hi, my audio monitoring has worked fine the whole time I've used it, until I installed a windows update today. I've already uninstalled that update, but for some reason the problem persists. I'll try my best to explain.

I use obs to stream from an elgato capture card. I use obs's audio monitoring to hear the game I'm playing while I stream it. The weird thing is that the stream still has the game audio, while the audio monitoring produces nothing. I tried seeing if it was a problem with the capture card by testing the audio monitoring on my mic. The audio monitoring does not work for it either. Its like all sound output from obs is muted on my computer for some reason.

Anyone know whats going on here?

Windows 10 now has it's own version of "Virtual Audio Cable" as standard. Maybe that's what's causing your problems?

I looked into that and it might have solved the problem? While I was doing that I noticed that OBS wasn't showing up in the volume mixer of the default audio device, so I started messing around with that. For some reason OBS had started outputing audio to this sound device I'd never seen before. So I fiddled around in OBS and changed it back to default. I don't know why this happened but thank you for trying to help me.
