Hello, i have an opportunity to buy such cpu (2697v3) and motherboard (asus rampage v extreme) for 4.5k PLN (1.1k euro). Its a 14 core beast cpu but i wonder if i will be able to utilise it for x264 recording, i am trying to create a streaming/recording rig that will be able to withstand any possible game xD
no, really, its an opportunity as the xeon price is around 7k PLN here plus the motherboard is another 1k ( around 1 904 euro for both cpu and Motherboard)
Currently i have :
- i7 6700
- GTX 1080 Gainward GS
- 16gb of ram
- crappy video quality as i cant find any way to make my obs to better (it was good on auto settings before i started to tinker with it to have mutli track audio to fix my mic during video making)

It would be good as a dedicated streaming / recording PC, but it would cause a minor loss of game performance due to the lower per-core speed.

Yes tho i think that it would be a minor loss in Cpu Game performance (2.6ghz per core xeon and 3.4 per core i7) the thing is im kinda scared about buying this because there are few games that use 4+ cores. Still if i could allign like 4 cores of xeon to obs and rest to play games (or 4 to play games and rest to obs) it would give me muych better performance

Before you go with an old gen xeon I woould recommend buying a AMD 1950x Threadripper. Will have better or equal encoding performance but a far better gaming performance and costs less in total.

holy guacamoly, the threadripper cost is same as xeon+motherboard O_O that will end up being quite expensive as hell
As i stated in first post its not about buying a pc rig to stream/play or building it, my friend wants to get rid of xeon+asus V rampage for 4.5k pln (ye polish currency sucks...) i just want to know if its actually worth it to get those parts from him
Cost of 1950x is 4.2k pln without motherboard...

Jesus, your hardware prices are quite inflated. It is not really worth it imho. Ever since Twitch changed their Bitrate regulations to up to 6k for everyone made it quite easy to stream 720p60@6000 without chipping in that much for a PC. An i7 8700k + z370 or an Ryzen 7 1800x(since its dropped in price) is more than capable of doing 720p60.

But considering the currently posted System the i7 6700 is also capable of doing that, I have one myself and im not having any problems as of now.
