Is there an easy way to select and record a section of the display?

I seem to have a search term disability. This seems like an obvious capability but I can't find anything on it. What I want to do, for example, is record a video snippet much like the windows snippet utility works. Just use the mouse to grab a section of the screen and then record what's in the section. For example watching and recording an instagram video to share with my aged mom that doesn't have an instagram account. etc. I tried messing with Display, window and game capture but couldn't figure out an easy way to grab a subsection of the display or window. Using two monitors I was able to sort of work it out but it was a pain. I couldn't figure out how to use the mouse to pick the section of the screen. TIA.

For others that come across this, I'm presuming your solution was to use Display Capture, then crop to the desired area. Window Capture woudl work as well, for selecting a portion of an Application Window
