Question / Help Is there an audio plugin somewhere to compress audio in obs?

The default "compressor" plugin doesnt work and I dont think it ever did. For instance, if I put a gain x3 before the in built compressor function, then give that a ratio of 20:1, threshold of -11, that should mean (like in every other audio DAW out there) that any sound above -10db should be compressed by 20x. This means that an uncompressed signal that reached 0 DB before (i.e maxed out) should be compressed down to -10.5DB (i.e. 10DB of it is above the threshold, when compressed by 20x).

However, the compressor is not doing anything other than if I set the threshold really low, slightly compressing the rest of the sound. Seems like a bug or the default plugin should have been called something else to me!

Does anyone know of a plugin that works like the compressor in every other audio program out there, and as I have described above?

Odd. That's how the compressor works for me. Did you set a sidechain source, possibly?

Note that the compression ONLY applies to the audio actually going out on the stream/into the recording. You will not hear the compression in realtime on your end. Try doing a test recording with the default 10:1 ratio and a steady high-dB source, and ride the threshold slider up and down. You should hear the adjustment on playing back the recording. You can also see it in the OBS mixer dock, the peak will follow and display the compressed output level. I just added one and was messing with it to make sure... it definitely works as expected.

I'm on about how the audio looks on the mixer and no it's not compressing at all. I have updated to the newest version of OBS does that have any issues with this?
