Question / Help Is there a way to reduce the output file size and still have HD/SD quality?

Basically the title, i'm trying to record some old shows and movies off the web, and after recording this hour long one, It was roughly 2.5-3.5 GB in size. So I was just curious if anyone with Studio may have had better luck in slimming down the file size, while maintaining the standard definition look or at least some sort of 480/720 look. My goal is to put 3 episodes on a dvd for storage and later personal use. However at my current size, it'll be more like one or two episodes per disc.

Thanks for any suggestion or knowledge that you give.

In Windows 7 I use Windows Movie Maker.
There are lots of different options and resolutions you can save videos to.

I also use Format Factory which is free and works with all file types, video, audio etc.
