Question / Help Is there a way to record my mic without playing it back to me?

Like the subject says. I've spent the better part of an hour trying to figure this out with no luck. I can either hear myself and also record (which is a crazy level of distracting) or I can not hear myself and the recording is missing all my words. I would appreciate some advice and am happy to provide additional data upon request.

Oh my god. This time I turned off Monitor it worked. I'm seriously confused. Is it possible for functionality like this to just flat 'not work' for no apparent reason? Just trying to wrap my head around whether this is user error (likely) or something kludgy in the software itself. I seem to oscillate between things working and things not.
