Question / Help Is there a single settings guide somewhere?

I have just transitioned from OBS Classic to OBS Studio and the performance is really bad by comparison. Is there an actual guide anywhere that goes through OBS STUDIO settings in detail somewhere and what they mean and how they impact performance? It seems like an awful lot of the answers in here are "Downscale to 720." If I was gettting really nice 1080 local recording in Classic, why would I want to downscale?

Also, I have a bit of a different use. I do not cap PC games. I run streams of tabletop games, so I have 1080 camcorder video coming in through an HDMI cap card with some simple overlays over it. I can devote virtually all of the PC's processing power to the stream and recording. (Specs below)

If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. Surfing around in here keeps getting me to answers to questions I'm not asking. I know it's a niche thing and I am a donk that doesn't know what I'm doing, but this is pretty frustrating.

There are many guides for OBS Studio, depending on what you're trying to accomplish. If you're trying to make high quality local recordings, this guide is for you. If you're trying to stream, there are guides for many different streaming services, and downscaling to 720p is often recommended for streaming due to various bitrate restrictions. However, you can still record in 1080p.
