Question / Help Is the problem my upload?

Hey guys,

I stream BF4 and am trying to improve my stream quality - preferably so I can stream at 720p 30fps.
I believe my upload should be capable, however every time I have a bitrate over 2000, frames drop like crazy (30+% drops). I currently use 1800kbps (@520p 30fps), but the output is a little choppy for my liking.

I have tried the steps in the troubleshooting guide:
- Tried Singapore, LA and San Francisco server (San Fran seems to be the best for me)
- Disabled Antivirus (Bitdefender), no difference
- Using cable and not wireless (noone else uses the net when I'm streaming)
- ShaperProbe doesn't detect shaping for download or upload
- I stream okay to hitbox, thought that's probably because they have an AUS server...

I'm guessing? it's due to the distance between me and the closest server..however, I've seen Australians streaming 720p BF4 at stable 3500kbps ...so I assumed I would get similar results (I'm in NZ though).

Specs:
AMD FX8350
GTX 970
16GB RAM 1600mhz

Anyone have any suggestions/steps I could try to see where the problem lies?

Hmm, if you dont drop frames, it should be pretty smooth. Have you checked a local recording yet, does that work fine and run without any choppyness?
The reason why Australians might have more luck could be the routing between them and the server. If your upload stream has to go through too many hops, and some of them are even slow, it would explain that you drop frames when going above 1800kbps. High ping variances might also add a negative effect.

Went ahead and tried local recording yesterday, and it was pretty good.
Perhaps choppiness wasn't the correct word.. it sometimes pixelates? probably due to the dropped frames?

It's a little strange...as I have 2 houses. One house on a 50d/20u plan (speedtest above) and the other at 100d/50u plan (average 22up on speedtests). Yet, neither can go above 1800kbps - tried 2 different computers.
My friend who is in NZ also and streams (same company but different city), can stream stable at 3500kbps.

That probably does leave the routing then :L Never thought of that tbh
