Fraps buffer allows you to keep the recording on pause (FPS counter turns fuchsia color) until you press a key, then it add the amount of buffer time you chose at the beginning of the video, and then keep recording. So as final result you have one single video file with that awesome explosion footage and also whatever you keep recording after that.
In OBS you have the buffer replay file, and if you want to keep recording more footage you have to press more keys and at the end you have two video files that have a micro cut parts on it because you are not pressing the pause/record keys that quickly.

EDIT: oops! never mind, I just found out that that option is already there "Record from Replay Buffer"
