I am new to obs and I have bought a gaming laptop and want to record videos for youtube with it. It runs all my games fine but when I record the recording come out extremely choppy but the audio is fine. I have looked around many of the forums but have not found anything to fix it and was wondering if there was something that my laptop had that would not allow me to record.

A few things:
  1. The Avast/AVG antivirus' Game Mode is known to cause issues with OBS. Having it enabled will essentially render OBS inoperable. You can either disable Game Mode in the options, or uninstall Avast/AVG completely.
  2. Cap your in-game frame rate.
  3. Disable the Windows 10 Gaming features (Game Bar, Game DVR, Background recording).

I did what you said and it made the recording a little better but its still very choppy, is there anything that is outdated or weak in my laptop that can be causing the problem?

Please provide a new log file so I can see exactly where the choppiness is coming from. Start a recording, record for a while (30 seconds minimum, but longer is fine), then stop the recording. Close OBS. Open OBS and then upload the "Last Log File" (not the Current Log File) from the Help menu.

As for your system specs, the CPU is a bit underpowered as far as the 7th generation Intel CPUs go. The GTX 1050 is okay, but not great. The system also only has 8GB of RAM. I'm not sure I'd classify it as a gaming laptop.

Your CPU can't keep up with encoding and your other background tasks (gaming, apps, etc.), and I'm not sure you're going to be able to get it to do so (since it's on the lower end of that line of CPUs). Your best bet is probably to use hardware encoding - either NVENC or QSV. NVENC will probably produce better results.
