Question / Help Is it possible to mute microphone for specific applications?

Hello,

I'm wondering if it's possible to mute my microphone in certain applications. I'm streaming Need for Speed: Most Wanted and that game have always on voice chat, which in turn make my unable to speak while streaming without annoying the shit out of everyone in the game.

make sure that stereo mix is not your default "recording" device on window audio settings and that the mic doesn't play to any playback device

This is my settings for OBS and Windows. Not quite sure if this is what you meant but this is what I have.

go to the proprieties of the headset microphone and from the listen tab make sure it doesn't play

How exactly will that help me?

If I enable listen does it automatically stop sending the sound to whatever program I'm using? :)

Your point then being that I just stream the local audio and ignore using my microphone to broadcast?

you said that you annoy the shit out of everyone in the game if you're streaming. how is that exactly ? it can't be possible that the headset microphone is picking up other sounds when you're on a headset setup only when you start streaming with obs?

Nah that's not the issue. I want to be able to speak to my stream, but the game has always on voice chat. So if I speak to my stream everyone in the game will hear it. I don't want them to hear it. There is no way to disable voice chat in-game.

There really is no way to disable voice in game? Wow, what terrible design is that?
The only way I can imagine this working is to use a separate microphone on another port as default and mute that sucker in windows setting entirely. Then use your secondary and actual microphone in OBS to talk.

it's much more clear now..

close the game and make the desktop microphone your default device and then pick the headset mic on obs..

the game will most likely just go for the default mic that is not plugged in

Desktop microphone? Which one do you mean? I only have 1 microphone. Perhaps the image above is misleading.

yeah the jack for a potential desktop microphone anyways, after double checking you can't make an unplugged device the default.. i have an audio driver that can act as logical muted plugged recoding microphone device if you want it.. you can also use programs like dfx audio enhancer that will act as one.

I tried enabling "Stereo Mix" as a default microphone device and hopefully that will work. When I speak in the microphone it doesn't seem to be any sound at all coming from the stereo mix. Then I should be able to stream my G35 microphone. I'll have to see if it works. Thanks for the help.
