Intermittent audio distortion in OBS with Soundcraft Ui24R – restarting OBS temporarily fixes it

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing an audio issue during our church livestreams and I'm trying to determine whether the problem is related to OBS, Windows, or our audio interface/mixer.

Our setup uses a Soundcraft Ui24R digital mixer, which provides the audio for OBS. During our most recent Sunday livestream, the audio suddenly started sounding very bad/distorted while we were live. The problem happened multiple times during the same broadcast.

I had to restart OBS three times during the livestream. Each time I restarted OBS, the audio returned to normal, but after some time the problem happened again.

The important part is that restarting OBS seems to temporarily fix the issue, which makes me think that something may be happening with the audio device, driver, sample rate, buffer, or the way OBS is processing the audio over time.

I'm trying to troubleshoot this systematically rather than just restarting OBS every time it happens.

Has anyone experienced something similar when using a Soundcraft Ui24R with OBS?

What would you recommend checking first? In particular, I'm wondering about:

  • Sample rate settings between the Ui24R, Windows, and OBS (44.1 kHz vs. 48 kHz)
  • Audio buffering
  • USB audio/driver issues
  • OBS audio device configuration
  • Duplicate audio sources
  • CPU/system load causing audio problems over time
  • Any known issues with the Ui24R and OBS during long livestreams
Since restarting OBS immediately restores the audio, I would especially appreciate suggestions about what could cause the audio to degrade during a livestream but work normally again after restarting OBS.

PC Specifications:

  • Intel Core i7, 10th Generation
  • 16 GB RAM
  • No dedicated GPU — using Intel integrated graphics
  • Windows PC
Camera / OBS Setup:
I currently use four camera sources in OBS:

  • 1 PTZ camera connected via NDI over the local network.
  • 1 webcam connected directly via USB.
  • 2 additional cameras connected through Iriun Webcam.
I also have several OBS plugins installed, including PTZ Controls for controlling the PTZ camera and NDI Source for receiving the NDI video feed.

Thread 'Please post a log with your issue! Here's how...'

OBS Studio creates a log file each time you run it which contains very useful diagnostic information. Without a log file, it's much harder for any support volunteers to figure out problems and your post may be ignored.

To upload a log file, go to the Help menu > Log Files > Upload Last Log File. "Last Log File" is for the last session (the last time you ran OBS). In some cases you may be asked to select "Current Log File" instead, which is for the current session.
