Question / Help incorrect form factor issue 5:4 instead of 4:3

hello
when recording real time analog PAL signal ( 720*576 4:3 ) using acquisition card and OBS studio I got an MPEG4 file but
5:4 instead of the desired 4:3 form factor.
The only way I found to get the correct form factor is to put 768*576 instead of 720*576 as parameters

Thanks for help
Jean-Luc
PS : Other sofware like Magix provide the desired form factor but .. in MPEG2

That's correct, 720x576 is aspect ratio 5:4 - if you interpret this with quadratic pixels. Media players have to squeeze them to aspect ratio 4:3 to make circles look quadratic.
As far as I know, OBS always assumes quadratic pixels, so one correct solution is what you found: capture with 768x576. This way, the capture card scans quadratic pixels and the resolution has 4:3 aspect ratio. As alternative, you can also capture with 720x540. That's also quadratic pixels with aspect ratio 4:3.

To capture and record with one of these 2 resolutions, enter the desired resolution at 3 places. 1. as resolution in the capture card configuration (in the "Video Capture Device" source of OBS). 2. in OBS Settings->Video->Base (canvas) resolution and 3. same page: Output (Scaled) Resolution.

Thanks for answer
the problem with "quatratic pixel " is I have to go through Video editiong S/W even if the desired used is a rough MPEG4 file
customers expects 720*576 with the right form factor .
and default mode for Video editing S/W like Magix is 720x576 4:3
My " dream would be to be able to parametrize Pixel shape , Either rectangular or square .
