Imac M3 Sequoia 15.2 screen capture is very broken

I have done several screen captures and they are very broken with many dropped frames. Audio is fine but video is horrible. I tried capturing just a window ( which is apparently going away.. Why? ) and it still captured the entire screen with many dropped frames. Is this common? I have used this before and it was fine. seems broken to me.
