Is there a way to turn off what obs picks up for sound i.e music and sound you don't want on your stream or does it just pick up everything once it is turned on?

You can do that using Virtual Audio Cable, an inexpensive program for redirecting sound sources: http://blog.hemp-society.de/2013/02/how ... our_4.html

This only works if the program you are trying to filter sound from has the ability for you to select your audio device. Pretty much any VoIP program can do this.
